Freedom Development Agency (Freeda), an initiative of Mercy House Ministries, is dedicated to uplifting vulnerable Christian communities in urban slums across Uganda. Founded by Dr. Gilbert Birungi, Freeda combines microfinance, skills training, and spiritual empowerment to combat poverty sustainably. Operating in areas like Kawempe North, Kampala, Freeda has empowered 530 active members with soft loans at affordable rates (as low as 5%), enabling success stories like Sarah, a single mother who launched a thriving retail shop, and Pastor Julius, who acquired church land. Services include agricultural loans, business start-up loans, financial literacy training, and more, targeting widows, youth, single mothers, and pastors. With a vision to expand to five regional branches in four years, Freeda seeks partnerships to scale its impact, supported by a UGX 60,000,000 budget.
